The Outfit is a creative company that specialises in ‘content-led’ advertising that people want to watch, share and talk about. Their team is a unique mix of people from the worlds of advertising and entertainment and they are experts at creating campaigns that blur the boundaries between programming and advertising.

The brief

We’ve had a long running relationship with the core team at The Outfit, having designed their logo and brand approach seven years ago when they were just two guys at a kitchen table. Over the past year they’ve commissioned us to carry out a wide-ranging brand refresh and expansion, a new website and supporting digital marketing activity.

outfitOur approach

The client were rightly keen to take a good look at their brand before embarking on a new website project. Working this way allowed us to carry out a thorough audit of existing brand assets and marketing materials before entering into a period of design exploration in which we refreshed and redefined the brand’s visual language.

The Outfit were clear that they didn’t want a brand guidelines document gathering dust on the shelf, so we developed a series of bold graphic posters as an alternative. Each of the posters featured a key element of the brand and the whole set were displayed around the office to be gradually absorbed by all of the staff (and not just the communications team!) In addition to the brand guidance, we also created new presentation templates.

The new website was the first big digital test of the new brand. In exploring various design routes, the client expressed a preference for the ‘organised scrapbook’ approach to the home page, which is designed to bring to the surface examples of their work in a diverse and interactive way. The website more generally offers a clearer, more informative approach to client case studies and campaigns.

To support the launch of the new website, we developed a search engine optimisation strategy, which has informed the development of new content as well as an approach generating better-quality links to the website.
