Why we use WordPress

WordPress is an intuitive and powerful open source content management system (CMS) that we’ve used to build accessible and responsive sites for more than a decade.

WordPress is an intuitive and powerful open source content management system (CMS) that we’ve used to build accessible and responsive sites for more than a decade.

User-friendly and powerful

WordPress started life as a blogging platform in 2003, for which a clean and simple publishing interface was crucial. Since then it has developed into a fully-fledged CMS capable of powering large sites with complex data structures but the interface has remained user-focused and intuitive. The recent arrival of the Gutenberg editor has added a new level of layout flexibility for website editors and everything that we develop is ‘responsive’ across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Open source

As WordPress is open source, there are no licensing costs and updates are regularly made available. It is widely supported by a large and active community of developers, which avoids the problems of clients being locked into a proprietary system or a single supplier. This makes it a cost-effective and sustainable solution that is ideal for non-profit and commercial organisations alike.

Security

WordPress is used by 450 million websites worldwide and, as such,  is extensively tested. It is also very secure if a high quality hosting environment is used and WordPress and any installed plugins are regularly updated. We enforce strong passwords by default and WordPress has built-in user roles that can be extended to provide flexibility and control over access to different features and content.
